Solar Sailor technology used on successful "Crossing of the Ditch"

14th January, 2008

Solar Sailor congratulates James Castrission and Justin Jones on their historic first ever kayaking across the Tasman - http://www.crossingtheditch.com.au/

Solar Sailor was proud to sponsor the project and supplied the integrated solar and battery systems on board to run all their life preserving vital equipment such as desalination, radio, laptops and communications.

Solar Sailor automation engineer a New Zealander himself who worked with the boys said - "With so much critical equipment on board Solar Sailor needed to engineer a very reliable system with dual solar power systems and redundancy built into all levels. Another key design criterion for this project was simplicity – the drawings and instruction sheets had to be specially drawn in clear picture formats so the kayak guys could use them. After more than sixty challenging days at sea Lot 41 ended with power from Solar Sailors panels and all the batteries charged and in service."
