Shipping water from Tasmania
MEDIA RELEASE
12th October, 2006
CEO Robert Dane says “We have had enormous interest in the concept since this went public even at this preliminary stage. We are doing an analysis of two sites in West and North Tasmania where there are large quantities of fresh water close to the shoreline which is currently running into the ocean and not being used.”
Our study is looking at the year round availability for a minimum 50 gigalitre export and a determination of that as a percentage of the water available.
The study will then determine an estimated price per tonne (kilolitre) for water delivered to different mainland Australian cities. The water will be delivered at sea level so it can be compared to desalination.
The shipping solution price will include the cost of landside infrastructure in Tasmania, capital costs of marine infrastructure, finance costs, operating costs (including all energy costs) and a price per tonne paid/tonne to the people of Tasmania.
We will present our findings to the Tasmanian Government on the 3rd of November.
