Boat Fuel Systems Buyer’s Guide

Choosing a suitable boat fuel system is an important decision for a boat owner. With prices ranging from $20 to $100, there is some variance in quality and size. Although boat fuel systems are not especially pricey, they are still a vital part of the boat fueling process. With many different boat fuel systems to choose from, it can be difficult to know which would be the best choice for your boat engine.

Our buying guide reviews the best windlasses on the market so you can choose the right fuel system for your boat.  The following features are included on most boat fuel systems and will help you in your search for the best one to suit your needs.

Water Separation

Boat fuel systems main function is to separate emulsified water from your gasoline. Because water particles can be extremely small, the filter process needs to be thorough enough to successfully separate and in turn protect the engine. Some fuel systems will give a percentage of how much emulsified water it is able to remove. This percentage needs to be as close to 100% as possible, and at least over 99% to ensure efficiency. Particles smaller than 10 microns are difficult to separate, but anything above that should be possible from a good boat fuel system.

The size of the boat fuel system you require will depend on the logistics of your particular boat. Most fuel systems will provide a comprehensive list of engine/boat types which they are compatible with, so this is worth checking to avoid disappointment.

Boat fuel systems are made up from a number of different components. In order to get the most for your money, check that the system provides everything you need to install it and get it up and running. Look out for the fuel fitter bow, plugs, hose fittings and filter heads. Some equipment may be powder coated which will make it reusable.
