Wakeboard Tower Speakers Buying Guide
When buying a wakeboard tower speaker, here are a few things to look out for.
Water Resistance or Waterproof
These two terms may be confused to mean the same, but they actually have different meanings. Some wakeboard tower speakers are water-resistant while others may be waterproof. Water-resistant speakers can resist a minute amount of water. Thus, they can handle splash, drizzles, and other less threatening amounts of water but may get damaged when submerged. Waterproof speakers, on the other hand, are designed to keep water out. Thus, when submerged, they may not allow water to penetrate into the speakers.
Although there are low chances that your wakeboard tower speakers are going to get submerged, we strongly advise that you opt for waterproof speakers because some extra protection can be valuable.
Power
There are two power parameters to look at when choosing the best wakeboard tower speaker for your boat: the RMS and peak power. The RMS is the speakers’ average tolerable power. It is the amount of power that the speaker can handle over a long duration. On the other hand, the peak power of a wakeboard tower speaker is its spike limit. In case there is an accidental spike in the volume for any reason, this peak power lets you know how much of that obnoxious decibel of sound the speaker can handle. Leaving the volume higher than the RMS over a long time could damage the speaker; therefore, when it accidentally goes above the RMS (but ensure it stays within the peak power), endeavor to keep it within the RMS power limit. Choosing a speaker with higher RMS means higher sound volumes.
Marine Rating and Tested Waters
Marine ratings are given to wakeboard tower speakers that are approved for usage in the water. Unrated speakers are not advisable since water may damage them and incur extra repair or replacement costs.
Some wakeboard tower speakers are suitable for freshwater and some for saltwater. Ensure to know the type of water that you always ride on and buy accordingly. Nevertheless, we recommend tower speakers that are tolerant of both saltwater and freshwater.
